History: English star Rob Taylor first began wrestling aged 12 during a 4 year stay in the US and quickly became skilled. After a standout year wrestling in Junior High, Taylor returned to England and began train for both freestyle and professional competition. He won his weight class in the '92 British Championship and at 16 was the youngest ever wrestler picked for the British Olympic squad. Taylor turned down the chance of competing at the Olympics in favor of a developmental deal at the Japan Wrestling Federation Dojo in Tokyo.
Taylor made his professional debut on January 5th 1993 aged 17, at the JWF's flagship show in the Tokyo Egg dome against fellow rookie and current ECWC Play By Play man, Dale "Axman" Devlin. Axman would play a very large part in Taylor's early career.
Taylor quickly rose up the JWF Junior division and won his first title, the JWF Junior Title on May 9th 1993, and quickly followed up by capturing the JWF Tag Titles with Axman. By now Taylor was developing his in ring personality, He often referred to himself as 'The Peoples Champion' (4 years before The Rock ever did..FACT) which did not endear him to the Japanese fans. He and Axman were the most hated men in JWF history! He also became skilled in the Brazilian Martial Art, Capioeria, learning from fellow wrestler Ronaldo De Silva.
In 1994 Axman returned to the US for a position with the UWF, Taylor carried on in Japan, he began to wrestle barbed wire and other extreme matches, with great success. His greatest match in JWF came against World Champion Pegasus, whom he took to a 60 minute time limit draw.
In Late 1994, Taylor was offered a contract by the UWF. He made his UWF debut as Axman's mystery partner in a PPV tag team title match. "Red Hot" Rob Taylor (as he was now known) & Axman lifted the gold after Taylor unveiled his new finisher, The Heatseeker, a modified shooting star press which he can deliver from the ropes, a cell or even a balcony!
Taylor and Axman continued to feud with The Horsemen faction over the majority of 1995 and as such found themselves in unfamiliar territory, they were becoming the most popular double act in the UWF.
After trading tag gold throught the spring, summer saw Taylor and Axman tackle singles careers wiith great success. Axman captured the UWF World Title in the Ring Wars tournament. While Rob captured the Television title.
During the autumn though, cracks began to show in Taylor & Axmans' friendship, the fans were desperate to see the two battle in the ring and after a series of misunderstandings, with Taylor inadvertantly costing Axman his title , Axman finally turned on Taylor.
Taylor took several weeks to recover from the savage beating recieved from his former friend. They fought battles all over the winter with even outcomes. Taylor was quickly becoming the franchise player of UWF, merchandise sales were making him a very rich man.
Both men were named #1 contender to the World title at the UWF's flagship event War Zone, they were to face champion, Timothy Hutton in a 3 way Caged Fury Pinfall Match.
March 3rd 1995 was both the and low point of Taylor's career to date, in front of 80,000 fans.Hutton was knocked out cold early in the match leaving the two former friends battling for the title and their lives. They climbed the cage, and to the shock of millions Axman fell from the cage and was stretchered out. Taylor quickly finished off Hutton and at 19 became the Youngest World Champion in history, to add to his Television title!.
The victory was soured by the news that Axman had broken his neck, and was likely to be paralysed for life.
Taylor was devastated by this and retired from wrestling as World and Television champion, the following day aged just 19!!
The Next Stage
During his time away Rob returned to the UK to concentrate on a burgeoning music career, he signed a record deal with Creation Records, home of Oasis and began recording. Taylor's band had 3 Top Ten hits before finally hitting Number One with their first album, "Rebel". This, on top of his merchandise payouts from UWF made him a multi-millionaire by 20!
Taylor bought a London Night Club and and toured Europe and The US with his band. He also guest hosted a popular chat show.
Bizarrely, Rob was becoming a huge celebrity in England, but to this day, he has never wrestled there!
The Return!
During 1999 Taylor was beginning to "feel the itch". He had kept in wrestling shape through out his lay off. Heartened by the news that Axman had recovered sufficiently to walk again. Taylor began negotiations with the fledgling Online Wrestling Organization. He began serious training in November 1999 and made his OWO debut in January 2000.
Taylor picked up where he left off, an impressive debut wins over Assasin & G-Money before taking on fellow newcomer Deviant in a strap match at Broken Hearts, Shattered Dreams. Although Taylor lost, he put in a stellar performance. Sufficient enough for then World Champion Robbie Douglas and Deviant to recruit Taylor to join The Commonwealth Wrecking Crew.
The Crew quickly made their mark in the OWO, when Douglas was sidelined. Taylor stepped up to the plate and began a feud with American Eagle.
After scoring 2 Pinfalls over the champion, "Red Hot" Rob Taylor beat Eagle at Sin City to become OWO World Heavyweight Champion!!!
Taylor had the longest title reign to date although when Robbie Douglas returned, tensions began to rise.
Taylor eventually lost to Johnny Rampage under controversial circumstances, this began the seeds of destruction for The CWC.
After Taylor cost Deviant the title, Deviant returned the favour and soon the Crew had shattered.
Robbie Douglas' retirement left Rob once again facing the now North American Champion, Deviant. The two had a blistering feud before Taylor finally defeated his nemesis in a devestating Last Man Standing Match!
Taylor holds victories over American Eagle, Logan Brock, Assassin, Diablo, Mark Murphy, Deviant & Johnny Rampage. An impressive CV!!!
Taylor was still North American Champion when Will Roberts purchased the OWO and renamed it ECWC.
Rob quickly fell foul of old foe Jean Luc LeFerve who was Vice President. Taylor was turned on first by longtime friend Canadian Lumberjack, then by Axman who had a breif run with ECWC.
Taylor was drawn as number one entrant in the REAL RUMBLE, which deterimined the first ECWC World Champion. Taylor lasted over 45 minutes and eliminated 8 men before finally being screwed out of the title by the returning 'Deviant'
From there, Taylor battled Axman before he once again fell foul of authority.
Will Robert, jealous of Rob's blossoming relationship with Pippa Pilkington, and the fact Rob and Pippa were to have a child, targeted RHRT.. First by interfering with the couples wedding plans, then by throwing the 400lb moster Python at Rob.
The two collided in a colossal Hell In A Cell match, during which Taylor stunned the crowd with A Heatseeker from the top of the cell. Unfortunatly the spectacular move backfired and cost RHRT the win and a serious concussion
At this time, Taylor had been deemed the number one contender for the ECWC World Champion, and would recive his shot in his home country at Civil War, which was held at the legendary Wembley Stadium. En Route to London, Taylor won the JWF World Title from old rivial Pegasus in a 60-Minute Iron Man Match. Riding on a wave of momentum and with 85,000 of his countrymen cheering him on, Rob defeated Noah Krown at Civil War and became the first man in History to have held Four World Titles.
Taylor's honeymoon period was quickly ended by the rookie sensation Karnage, who severely injured Taylor's knee and in a shocking turn of events won the title from him. Taylor blamed owner Will Roberts, who had engineered Karnage's win, Rob had an ace up his sleeve. His recently signed contract granted him the right to face Roberts for ownership in a match of his choice and that the title had to be vacated..... The Match was signed and at Aftershock, an injured Taylor defeated Roberts and won ownership of ECWC. The victory was soured by now 2-Time champion Karnage, who attacked Taylor after the bell, causing a career threatening injury.
Careerwise, Rob Taylor was at his lowest, however on the same night, Pippa gave birth to their first son, Joshua. After knee surgery, Rob announced his retirement as an active ECWC competitor and vowed to focus on making ECWC the number one E-Entertainment Franchise. Several new signings were made. As of writing Rob is negotiating a deal for a behind the scenes documentary film to be made on ECWC. He has also just begun writing a book. Pippa is currently Head of Talent Relations in ECWC but is also enjoying a second career as ECWC's chief "Hottie".
